Requirements for Kendo Leaders

  1. Strive to cultivate the mind as well as train in the skills.
  2. Be a living example.
  3. Day and night, be thoughtful in how to lead the students.
  4. Lead according to the ability of individual student.
  5. Teach correctly.
  6. Differentiate how “in-house” student (you must be responsible for everything and “visiting” student (responsible as a Kendo practitioner are taught.
  7. Teach and guide correct theories.
  8. Teach in steps from general to specifics.
  9. Correct bad habits.
  10. Allow correctly executed strikes, but never allow incorrectly executed strikes.
  11. Encourage good points, especially for beginners.
  12. Utilize the student’s good points, and allow his/her character to shine.

Requirements for Promotion (6, 7, 8 Dan)

  1. Posture, Form, Kamae
    • Key points: ready stance (attention, immovable, energy, beauty, back side, holding Shinai, Kamae.
  2. Effective Strikes
    • Key points: crispness of Waza, sound, posture, sharpness, Zanshin, momentum/power, distance Maai.
  3. Luck: environment/location, opponent, individual judges’ values are not exactly alike.
  4. Other: study about judging and judging standards.
